Available with the following materials and finishes:

Waterproof polypropylene material

Highly durable plastic vinyl material. Tear, scratch and UV resistant. Ideal if liquid contact is possible, or you just want high durability. Recyclable.

Available with these finishes:

  • Uncoated – No lamination, giving a middle-ground finish between gloss and matt.
  • Gloss lamination – A shiny finish with even more durability thanks to the laminate coating.
  • Matt lamination – A silky finish. Also with more durability due to the lamination.

Both lamination options add a 10% additional charge.

Uncoated
Gloss Finish
Matt
Paper material

Premium paper stock that’s not waterproof or as strong as vinyl, but still holds up well to light abrasion such as being regularly handled. It’s also a lower cost than waterproof polypropylene. Recyclable and biodegradable.

Available with these finishes:

  • Gloss finish – Shiny
  • Matt finish – Silky.
🞬

Clear

Printed on transparent waterproof plastic with the following options:

Choose the print direction

Normal print has the adhesive on the back and the design on the front. Reverse print has the design on the adhesive side, so it can be stuck onto a transparent surface (like a window) and show the design on the opposite side of the glass. If in doubt, normal print is most likely what you require.

Choose the adhesive

Standard adhesive has a strong hold designed for permanent use. Low tack adhesive is better for temporary use as it’s easier to remove.

Would you like white ink?

Coloured inks printed on clear plastic can be semi-opaque. With white ink, we’ll print a layer of white underneath the printed parts of your design to make them more vibrant. You should also choose this option if you want any parts of your design printed in visible white (such as white text).

Choose a finish
  • Standard finish – No lamination, giving a middle-ground finish between gloss and matt.
  • Gloss lamination – A shiny finish with even more durability thanks to the laminate coating.

To make the rolls compatible with your sticker or label applicator, explain any details such as the required:

  • Orientation/leading edge
  • Winding
  • Number of labels per roll
  • Max roll diameter
  • or anything else you need

You can also enter the specific number of rolls you require, and we’ll divide the overall sticker/label quantity by the number of rolls (so if you order 1000 labels and 5 rolls, each roll will have 200 labels).

Do I need this?

These settings are very important if you’re putting the rolls into a mechanical label applicator, as the rolls must be compatible with your equipment (which can vary).

Further Information

What Are Matt Stickers?

Matt stickers are smooth and luxurious stickers that can be used for product labelling, branding and promotional purposes. The first ever matt sticker was created by 1981 Ohio-based plastics firm Cloplay Plastics, and it is safe to say that the label industry has never looked back. Matt stickers come with either a silky satin or matt finish, offering versatility and a huge range of options when it comes to design.

Crafted with our state-of-the-art Xeikon presses and eco-friendly solvent toner, they are hugely popular when it comes to food packaging, promotional products, marketing purposes, and much more.

Advantages of Matt Stickers Over Other Finishes

Matt stickers are similar to gloss stickers when it comes to durability, but are far more effective when applied to products that are regularly handled. This is due to their lustreless finish, avoiding any smudging or fingerprints.

As well as this, glossier stickers tend to reflect light, meaning that they can end up creating a glare that makes any information more difficult to read - especially if being displayed in a window.

Matt stickers diffuse light, avoiding this issue altogether. Matt stickers also, in general, encourage a more rustic and handmade aesthetic, which is ideal for businesses promoting organic or locally sourced ingredients.

Common Uses for Matt Stickers

956939-untitled-design-59.png

The common uses for matt stickers are vast, thanks to their renowned durability. Perfect for communicating simple designs in a professional-looking manner, the humble matt sticker is a timeless classic.

The highly absorbent finish of a matt sticker makes it ideal for being written on, meaning that they are often used at trade shows, for adding ingredients to food items, to communicate any additional product information, such as allergens or a ‘cruelty-free’ status on a cosmetics tin, and more.

Matt stickers also have strong resistance when it comes to tearing or peeling, making them suitable for floor graphics and as short-term signage

Types of Matt Stickers

While we know you can choose from polypropylene vinyl matt stickers, which offer weatherproof and UV-resistant properties, or paper stickers, you can also select the shape and cut of your design.

You can choose sheets of matt stickers, rolls, kiss or die-cut options, putting creative control directly into your hands. Kiss-cut stickers have a top layer that is cut, but paper backing that remains intact.

However, die-cut stickers are cut all the way around the design, creating a completely custom shape. While kiss-cut stickers are easier to peel, die-cut stickers offer more originality, so it depends on what works best for your business.

Printing Process for Matt Stickers

When it comes to the printing process for matt stickers, they are made up of a combination of polypropylene film, flexible clear or white calendered polymeric or monomeric vinyl. Opting for polymeric or monomeric vinyl depends on how long you want your stickers to remain in place.

For more short-term promotions or marketing strategies, the monomeric film is generally a good choice, with a 1-3 year grade. For more hard-wearing usage, polymeric vinyl offers a 4-6 year grade. After this has been established, a permanent or semi-permanent adhesive is applied.

Polymerics tend to have a softer feel and a gloss finish, although translucent and matt finishes are also obtainable. Most films are made using the chill-roll process, where the melt emerging from the flat film die is poured onto either chrome-plated, highly polished or matt finish chill-roll.

When it comes to a chill-roll, a rough surface is crucial. Calendered vinyl is made by pushing a heated mixture through calendering rollers - a faster and more budget-friendly option. Typically, cast vinyls are used when more intricate applications are required. After this, liquid resin is coated onto a highly polished substrate to produce an extremely thin film of vinyl.

History of Matt Stickers

Matt had long been a popular product using paper stock, but it was 1981 Ohio-based plastics firm Cloplay Plastics filed the first patent for a plastic film with a matt finish. By the early eighties the sticker industry was well-established across the globe, thanks to the success of companies such as the Panini sticker company. Italian newspaper moguls Benito and Giuseppe Panini in Milan set up the hugely successful Panini sticker company.

In 1960 the company became famous for its football sticker collections and by 1970 it was the first sticker company to produce stickers for the football World Cup. The company went on to be hugely successful on the back of its production and Panini recently produced stickers for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. In the past 10 years the technology has been adapted to great success in the vehicle industry. Matt finish vinyl, while not as widely used as gloss, is now used to wrap cars among other vehicles. KPMF kicked things off with a full UK taxi wrap in 1993, everything from planes to trains as well as fleets of cars are now wrapped in matt vinyl.

How is a Matt Sticker Made?

Plastic matt stickers are made from a combination of polypropylene film, flexible clear or white calendered polymeric or monomeric vinyl, or a cast vinyl and either permanent or easily removable adhesive. Polymeric and monomeric vinyl offers either short- or long-term application. Monomeric film is generally a 1-3 year grade and the Polymeric 4-6 year grade.

Polymerics feel softer and are primarily available in a gloss finish, although translucent and matte finishes are also obtainable. Most films are made using the chill-roll process. In this process the melt emerging from the flat film die is poured onto either chrome plated, highly polished or matt finish chill-roll. With the latter, the most important factor is the rough surface.

Calendered vinyl is made by pushing a heated mixture through calendering rollers. This is a fast, and as a result, cheaper method of production. Calendered vinyl is more likely to suffer from shrinkage due to the manufacturing process. Cast vinyls are used when a more intricate and stable applications are needed. Liquid resin is coated onto a highly polished substrate to produce an extremely thin film of vinyl.
